Sampooran Singh Kalra, The Legend

Sampooran Singh Kalra is a name very popularly unknown to most of us. He is no one but the greatest poet we know by his pen name, Gulzar! There’s no doubt that his poetries are exceptionally magnificent & no words of appreciation could do justice to his brilliance. From ‘Bandini’ to ‘Dedh Ishqiya’, from “Mora Gora Ang lei le’ to ‘Dil ka Mizaaj Ishqiya’, five decades of generation grew up humming to his soul stirring poetries, and still continuing.

But the biggest challenge about Gulzar poetries is, you simply cannot pick your “Most Favourite” because the moment you mark one as your favourite, you find another one better. His writings are in fact another level of poetry of its unique kind & some of them lives in your head forever.

And yes I do have my own picks like everybody else do!

Here they are…

1. A poetry of flirting with your beloved & a song of Love

Movie: Masoom
Song: Huzoor Iss Kadar

Huzoor iss kadar bhi na itarake chaliye
Khule aam aanchal na lehara ke chaliye

Koi manchala agar pakad lega aanchal
Jara sochiye aap kya kijiyega
Laga de agar, badh ke julfon me kaliyan
Toh kya apani julfe jhatak dijiyega

Bahot khoobsurat hai, har baat lekin
Agar dil bhi hota, toh kya baat hoti
Likhee jatee fir dastan-e-mohabbat
Yek afsane jaise mulakaat hoti

2. A recitation of a man’s undying spirit & his love for Life

Album: Koi Baat Chale
Song: Zindagi Kya hai

Aadmi bUlbula hai paani ka
Aur paani ki behati satah par
Toot ta bhi hai, doob ta bhi hai
Phir ubharta hai, Phir se behta hai

Na samandar nigal saka isko,
Na tawarikh tod payi hai..
Waqt ki mauz par sada behta
Aadmi bulbula hai paani ka

3. A yearning of love & peace beyond boundaries

Album: Marasim
Song: Ek Purana Masuam Lauta

Subah subah ek khwab ki dastak par darwaaja khola
Dekha sarhad ke uss paar se kuchh mehmaan aaye hain
Aankhon se maayus saare, chehre saare sune sunaaye
Paanv dhoye haath dhulaaye, aangan me aasan lagwaaye
Aur tandoor pe makki ke kuchh mote mote rot pakaaye
Potali mein mehmaan mere
Pichle saalon ki faslon ka gudh laaye the

Aankh khuli toh dekha ghar mein koyi nahi tha
Haath lagakar dekha toh tandoor abhi tak bujha nahi tha
Aur honton par mithe gudh ka jayaka ab tak chipak raha tha
Khwab tha shaayad khwab hi hoga
Sarhad par kal raat suna hai chali thi goli
Sarhad par kal raat suna hai kuchh khwabon ka khun hua hai

A Stupendous Victory

16th May of 2014; we witnessed a spectacular revolution in Indian Politics. We as well as the world will never forget this day. The golden words of glory is already been imprinted in the book of History. I need not say more.

A dream has come true after waiting for more than 15 years. But it’s not alone BJP’s victory; it’s the humiliating death of Congress I have always longed for. I hated Nehuru-Gandhi led Congress ever since I knew of Indian Politics and I wished them out of the house. And here we are, the wish lived & conquered.

As Paulo Coelho quoted “If you really desire something with your heart & soul, the entire universe conspires you achieving it”. Yes, it’s a no achievement of mine but BJP alone. But it’s a great satisfaction for my heart & soul; I LIVED EVERY SECOND OF THAT GLORIOUS DAY TO ITS FULLEST!! It’s The Stupendous Victory of my Hatredness. My deep desire of their death has finally paid off. My heart full thanks to the entire universe that joined the bandwagon of their death parade.

Oh wait there’s a twist in the Tale.

But am I as happy as I thought I would be? Did I celebrate it the way I thought I would? No, Not really. I don’t hate anyone anymore. The hatredness died that day after. I still believe their soul is completely contaminated with filth, But I can’t hate them anymore. I don’t pity them but I don’t hate them anymore either.

Hatredness is an ugly feeling. It haunts you every second of its existence. I would be lying if I say I liked the feeling. Though, somehow my soul is now free from that grimy feeling and I don’t think I can hate anyone ever. Hurrayy that’s a jackpot indeed. 😀

P.S. I Congratulate Mr. Narendra Modi for this astounding win!

An Apology Letter

Dear Mahatma Gandhi,

Please accept my sincere apologies as I have hated you all my life. It’s been almost 15 years, me & my father always debate about you being a man of honour or not. I never accepted his arguments to honour you as “Mahatma”. In fact I never said a word in your honour. But now when I go home, I’ll tell him The Debate is Over.

But why I hated you?

I have always hated Congress & the Nehru-Gandhi dynasty all my life and I still hate them for all the facts I gathered from Books, Articles, People & my reasoning mind. So it’s obvious that I hated you too, as they are from your bloodline. We would have achieved independence in a more noble way, had you not supported Jawaharalal Nehru so much.

But I have now learnt of JN’s treachery & your late realization of his wicked intentions.

The second reason I hated you is for the misdeeds Netaji Bose had to face because of you. When Netaji declared war against British, you decided not to support him because it was an act of violence. Seriously? Sometimes it’s essential to be a bit aggressive rather than standing firm & taking a hit.

But now I totally understand the approach of Indian society & can relate it’s influence on your decisions as well. Thanks to Google & the speech by Mr Rajiv Dixit. ( Videos-Rajiv Dixit on Mahatma Gandhi & on Brain Drain.)

Third reason, I am not sure if you were aware that Netaji Bose’s death was not an accident, he was killed or probably abducted. I always suspected it but now I am sure of how Netaji must have died or abducted & also can guess who probably set him up, after listening to Mr. Dixit’s speech. I have read many mentions of JN’s relationship with British & his intentions to be the PM of India and how he played his cards. The speech says it all, candid & clear. (Video named- Nehuru died of STD)

Now I take all these allegations back & I am sorry I judged you for the handful of crooks you kept company with.

Today, I honour you for being a Freedom Fighter, A Leader and a true Son of the Soil.

Having said that, I also have three reasons why I cannot hold you as the father of our nation or as a man who led us in winning Independence –

  1. We haven’t really got Independence
  2. We got our mother back but Broken & Paralyzed
  3. Your experiments with Truth & Non-violence

I am sorry but It had to be said. My honest apologies again for all false allegations I held upon you. May your soul rest in peace!

Yours sincerely,

P.S.: Rajiv Dixit was a great man of honour. He was very intelligent & political sound. Alas, In 2010 they poisoned him as well. Youtube his speeches & you will know lots of facts, which you would have never thought of or probably assumed.

& Much thanks to @advancedmaushi for helping me grammatically correct. 🙂

Indian Psychedelia

Psychedelia is a name given to the subculture of people who use psychedelic drugs;  and a style of Psychedelic artwork and Psychedelic music ; derived from the experience of altered consciousness that uses highly distorted and surreal visuals, sound effects and reverberation, and bright colors and full spectrums and animation to evoke and convey to a viewer or listener the artist’s experience while using such drugs.” #Wikipedia

Whether it is an art or music, I always hunted a psychedelic quotient in songs & the imageries; I am not a drug addict though. It’s jus, I love the trance of music that liberates a state of mind to a different level of exuberance; & I love the abstractness in the arts that hypnotizes the eyes to see a world way above or way deep within. Call it a mind-altering experience.  or call it a WOW experience.

However, by “Indian Psychedelia” I meant the amount of contribution India has to the art work of such stature. Would you believe that the entire Hindu religious belief system has been built on the psychedelic imaginations of ancient saints who once gave birth to the Empire of Gods & Goddesses. I am not kidding, evaluate yourself.

Music: Have you ever heard any classic devotionals or attended any Yangya? If yes, wouldn’t you agree that the chants & the songs written in devotion of these arts have an incredible trance to lift up the human imagination to an extreme? and If No, here is a @youtube link of such devotional classic/ psychedelic trance  –

These kind of music always had a beauty of their own. Be it Vocal or the musical instruments, they grab your concentration from all the things occupied in your mind and leaves you to a state of meditation. It’s a feeling like your mind is diving deep down into a place beyond any world; like your mind has  just opened the door to a musical heaven & to a world- full of happiness & joy. and then, It’s all you & your imagination, who travel through that aromatic experience. You begin to imagine things that you see in yourself in extremes, you begin to see a world-full of life you are flying through. It’s no less a feeling of a bird flying high in the sky. Yes, you can actually see yourself flying over the rainbow, so high. 😉

Not sure if you could relate to what i am talking about, But it’s too hard to pen down the psychedelic experiences. you have to feel it to know it.

Images: Aren’t the Gods/Goddesses looks like ascendants or descendants of Human being with additional set of heads, hands or legs OR a third eye? Would you disagree that a normal human conscious mind can ever think of images of the deities like – Bramha, Vishnu, Shiva, Kali, Durga, Hanuman, Narasimha etc etc.?

Can you think of any rationale to justify such nature of surrealness? Who had thought of them first? What made them think of such images? Who painted the images first? Who penned down their poems/stories first? What is it they referred to? – Being a normal human being, I simply can’t think of any of their artistic references. I am sure none of us could ever understood them and probably, that is the reason we believe in God and we love listening to their stories & songs – However I am sure there is a sheer appreciation & thankfulness hidden in our subconscious mind for these artistic brilliance.

I am not sure about the kind of drugs the saints used to reach this level of extra ordinary imaginations, but they certainly have left us a bouquet of beautiful art work. And thanks to the stories we now have a fair clarity of the God & the Evil / the Good & the Bad, whatever you prefer to call it as.

Incredible India!

A short lived poem

something I wanted to write
dunno what it was about
but i wanted it to be written

thoughts tangled up
sky, water, climate, work, she
and it never reached an end

words never knew the letters
sentences found no meaning
feelings never ceased….

it was the Black Mamba in me
all set to be in the swords
Kill them all.. yes. it did..

& it did end unfinished. sigh.

A short lived poem just freaked out…

17/06/2012 Sunday

It’s the clouds that ruled the day and the dawn and we had the first shower of typical Mumbai monsoon. Well, A wash-off long awaited!

Welcome Monsoon!!

& it’s a Sunday to lazy around all the day, lie dead on the bed, smoke up day long, stay high on music and the words that passes by the ears…

Overhead the albatross hangs motionless upon the air
And deep beneath the rolling waves in labyrinths of coral caves
The echo of a distant tide
Comes willowing across the sand
And everything is green and submarine

(Echoes by Floyd)

As it approaches dawn, the thirst in me rises to the dark rum I stared day along. OM Monk OM. Not much long then I reached the HIGH state of mind, it was full of breeze & windy outside. I raised the glass to the sky.. Cheers Monsoon!! we are getting dark tonight.

I gotta a feeling that tonight’s gonna be a good night..

(Black Eyed Peas)

Well, I am High on alcohol & green.

Mumbai Mirchi

It’s not any Mumbai special red/green chilly I am talking about, it’s a Biryani special Restaurant and BAR located in Chakala. It’s not a branded restaurant, but you can give it here a try for its extremely delicious food. You may call it an ordinary place by its look from outside & the area it is located in, But It, certainly, no ordinary & won’t disappoint you once you step inside.

I had heard about this restaurant many times from few of my friends who happen to visit here bit quite often. I never could go there before because of my sheer laziness, but today I finally managed to lift my butt outside on a Sunday noon. In general I am too lazy to step out of home on any Sundays But believe me, it was worth the effort and I don’t at all regret it.

Lunch Menu (For 3): – 4 Beers + Pahadi kebab + Banjara kebab + Prawn Biryani + Chicken Biryani

Kebab: I am absolutely in love with it; it was so fantastic. You must have to eat to love it. If I were a poet I would have written a page long abstract poem about it. 😉

They were so smooth & so well cooked, you can’t just stop eating them. And they taste really heaven when served with some beer.  Absolutely Bliss!

And, and… It’s much better than any Kebab I had tried in Bademiyan (Colaba). Here is my bet!

Biryani: Luckys, Baghdadi, Urban Tadka – are the undisputed Biryani specialists. Yes they are! and Mumbai Mirchi certainly, is nowhere behind their class. The Biryani, both prawn & chicken one, was so delicious I just don’t have any words to describe it. It is simply a class! I am sure, the cook has got a God’s hand who knows what exactly makes a Biryani so special. Honestly, I don’t remember if I had such classic Biryani since any long.

Ambience: It has a two floor arrangement; one underground & 2nd at the upstairs. We were sitting in the upstairs floor which was pretty much decent. I could not see the underground as it was too late about – 3.30 PM we reached there. But my friend says, the underground has even a better ambience.

And don’t worry, it’s quite affordable. You can imagine, 4 beers & the kebabs & the Biryani cost us just 1770 bucks. Yes, jus 1800 bucks with tip-  and 1800 bucks is totally worth pay out for 3 people having such delightful lunch.

Mumbai Rains

“Water, water, everywhere; And all the boards did shrink;

Water, water, everywhere; Nor any drop to drink”

There was this ocean (i dont know which one) the rhyme was written for.

But Mumbai has its own rhyme to hum for its great monsoons. & it goes like this….

“Water, water, everywhere; And all the day It Rained;

Water, water, everywhere; Nor a place to get Drained;”

You (complained all the time).

Echoes of the distant times

They were never so clear. They couldn’t be. They fade in, they fade out. But they are still alive somewhere in the memory pinching the promises made long back. They are still visible in glimpses, they still cling in my ears, laughing & mocking the doings that cannot really be summarized of, Not sure if they are the mirrors of passed times or they are just the nature’s way of vengeance to its destroyers. Their presence was never much appreciated then, but they never left apart walking along in bits & pieces. They surfaced their way along, reigning over the soul.

They were once believed to be Dreams, The future. And, The future is here, but they now remained just as the  ‘Echoes of the distant times’, fading away.  yeah, They sounded great then.   and gradually assembled to a beautiful collage as time passed by. *sigh*

Hell, WHY SO SERIOUS!! They were so good then, they are so good now, No matter if they are in favor or against! Times change, so do things. .. and They change for good! Got to believe it.

To bid you a farewell

This is the end
Beautiful friend
This is the end
My only friend, the end

Of our elaborate plans, the end
Of everything that stands, the end
No safety or surprise, the end
I’ll never look into your eyes…again
Yes, It’s the Great Jim Morrision (The Doors) song, we all love so much. It’s been more than a year or two, I have been listening to it so often and I still love listening to it so much. Even if  you might find two of  his other songs “Spanish caravan” & “The crystal ship” equally brilliant,  this one is absolutely the Greatest. Ever.  & Mind you, there is nothing like ‘The End’ , you can not stop yourself listening to on repeat, especially, When you are really high. Trust me. No kidding, you literally float with every goddamn single piece of beat & the sound of music… It gradually lifts you to a sphere, high above from the earth & makes you see how beautiful the world really is ..  It’s like you accidentally stepped into some other world & you found it PARADISE … Whooooa!! Excellent feeling – Get high on the green stuff  & Get even high on this song.

Man.. I am surely gonna miss the heavenly feeling the most when I quit getting high… *sigh* nyway..

Yeah, I AM not sure If i understanD the lyrics right. No review & no article I found, is convincing & not conflicting with their self. Every one has their own unique interpretations to the song and there are endless opinions to it.  SOo if we go by Mr Jim’s re-views of his own song..
“Everytime I hear that song, it means something else to me. It started out as a simple good-bye song probably just to a girl, but I see how it could be a goodbye to a kind of childhood. I really don’t know. I think it’s sufficiently complex and universal in its imagery that it could be almost anything you want it to be.”

It is, “A good bye song; ‘good bye’ cud be to anything!! And It’s sufficiently complex and universal in its imagery that it could be almost “anything” you want it to be!!”, hmm, some what makes sense. 😛

Anyway, Never mind even if the lyrics is too complex, there are so many other things in it that could caress your ears. Listen it to love it. 🙂

& here, he leaves a farewell note..

This is the end
Beautiful friend
This is the end
My only friend, the end

It hurts to set you free
But you’ll never follow me
The end of laughter and soft lies
The end of nights we tried to die
This is the end.

P.S.: – Is the post sufficiently Complex and Wired in its imagery that it could be almost “anything” you want it to be? or Does it look like a Goodbye note only? 😉
