Sampooran Singh Kalra is a name very popularly unknown to most of us. He is no one but the greatest poet we know by his pen name, Gulzar! There’s no doubt that his poetries are exceptionally magnificent & no words of appreciation could do justice to his brilliance. From ‘Bandini’ to ‘Dedh Ishqiya’, from “Mora Gora Ang lei le’ to ‘Dil ka Mizaaj Ishqiya’, five decades of generation grew up humming to his soul stirring poetries, and still continuing.
But the biggest challenge about Gulzar poetries is, you simply cannot pick your “Most Favourite” because the moment you mark one as your favourite, you find another one better. His writings are in fact another level of poetry of its unique kind & some of them lives in your head forever.
And yes I do have my own picks like everybody else do!
Here they are…
1. A poetry of flirting with your beloved & a song of Love
Song: Huzoor Iss Kadar
Huzoor iss kadar bhi na itarake chaliye
Khule aam aanchal na lehara ke chaliye
Koi manchala agar pakad lega aanchal
Jara sochiye aap kya kijiyega
Laga de agar, badh ke julfon me kaliyan
Toh kya apani julfe jhatak dijiyega
Bahot khoobsurat hai, har baat lekin
Agar dil bhi hota, toh kya baat hoti
Likhee jatee fir dastan-e-mohabbat
Yek afsane jaise mulakaat hoti
2. A recitation of a man’s undying spirit & his love for Life
Album: Koi Baat Chale
Song: Zindagi Kya hai
Aadmi bUlbula hai paani ka
Aur paani ki behati satah par
Toot ta bhi hai, doob ta bhi hai
Phir ubharta hai, Phir se behta hai
Na samandar nigal saka isko,
Na tawarikh tod payi hai..
Waqt ki mauz par sada behta
Aadmi bulbula hai paani ka
3. A yearning of love & peace beyond boundaries
Song: Ek Purana Masuam Lauta
Subah subah ek khwab ki dastak par darwaaja khola
Dekha sarhad ke uss paar se kuchh mehmaan aaye hain
Aankhon se maayus saare, chehre saare sune sunaaye
Paanv dhoye haath dhulaaye, aangan me aasan lagwaaye
Aur tandoor pe makki ke kuchh mote mote rot pakaaye
Potali mein mehmaan mere
Pichle saalon ki faslon ka gudh laaye the
Aankh khuli toh dekha ghar mein koyi nahi tha
Haath lagakar dekha toh tandoor abhi tak bujha nahi tha
Aur honton par mithe gudh ka jayaka ab tak chipak raha tha
Khwab tha shaayad khwab hi hoga
Sarhad par kal raat suna hai chali thi goli
Sarhad par kal raat suna hai kuchh khwabon ka khun hua hai
16th May of 2014; we witnessed a spectacular revolution in Indian Politics. We as well as the world will never forget this day. The golden words of glory is already been imprinted in the book of History. I need not say more.
A dream has come true after waiting for more than 15 years. But it’s not alone BJP’s victory; it’s the humiliating death of Congress I have always longed for. I hated Nehuru-Gandhi led Congress ever since I knew of Indian Politics and I wished them out of the house. And here we are, the wish lived & conquered.
As Paulo Coelho quoted “If you really desire something with your heart & soul, the entire universe conspires you achieving it”. Yes, it’s a no achievement of mine but BJP alone. But it’s a great satisfaction for my heart & soul; I LIVED EVERY SECOND OF THAT GLORIOUS DAY TO ITS FULLEST!! It’s The Stupendous Victory of my Hatredness. My deep desire of their death has finally paid off. My heart full thanks to the entire universe that joined the bandwagon of their death parade.
Oh wait there’s a twist in the Tale.
But am I as happy as I thought I would be? Did I celebrate it the way I thought I would? No, Not really. I don’t hate anyone anymore. The hatredness died that day after. I still believe their soul is completely contaminated with filth, But I can’t hate them anymore. I don’t pity them but I don’t hate them anymore either.
Hatredness is an ugly feeling. It haunts you every second of its existence. I would be lying if I say I liked the feeling. Though, somehow my soul is now free from that grimy feeling and I don’t think I can hate anyone ever. Hurrayy that’s a jackpot indeed. 😀
P.S. I Congratulate Mr. Narendra Modi for this astounding win!
So this is Most Funny Incident i have come across. This was 4 years back.
I had just had a break up and was sad n sitting on FB .Suddenly i got a request from a girl ,she was from Jai Hind. Now she was my childhood friend.
So we started chatting and decided to meet upon a date at Nariman point.
I just got down from the train n saw her standing and this was the exact description : ” A jari worked top with some red pants” and my reaction to this was like WTFFF.
I wanted to leave right then and there but the Gentleman in me said “No bro it would be a insult”.I had this trick when i use to go on dates. I use to carry at least 10 chocolates and whenever a Girl smiles i would give her one.Sounds Lame but always worked.

Dear Mahatma Gandhi,
Please accept my sincere apologies as I have hated you all my life. It’s been almost 15 years, me & my father always debate about you being a man of honour or not. I never accepted his arguments to honour you as “Mahatma”. In fact I never said a word in your honour. But now when I go home, I’ll tell him The Debate is Over.
But why I hated you?
I have always hated Congress & the Nehru-Gandhi dynasty all my life and I still hate them for all the facts I gathered from Books, Articles, People & my reasoning mind. So it’s obvious that I hated you too, as they are from your bloodline. We would have achieved independence in a more noble way, had you not supported Jawaharalal Nehru so much.
But I have now learnt of JN’s treachery & your late realization of his wicked intentions.
The second reason I hated you is for the misdeeds Netaji Bose had to face because of you. When Netaji declared war against British, you decided not to support him because it was an act of violence. Seriously? Sometimes it’s essential to be a bit aggressive rather than standing firm & taking a hit.
But now I totally understand the approach of Indian society & can relate it’s influence on your decisions as well. Thanks to Google & the speech by Mr Rajiv Dixit. ( Videos-Rajiv Dixit on Mahatma Gandhi & on Brain Drain.)
Third reason, I am not sure if you were aware that Netaji Bose’s death was not an accident, he was killed or probably abducted. I always suspected it but now I am sure of how Netaji must have died or abducted & also can guess who probably set him up, after listening to Mr. Dixit’s speech. I have read many mentions of JN’s relationship with British & his intentions to be the PM of India and how he played his cards. The speech says it all, candid & clear. (Video named- Nehuru died of STD)
Now I take all these allegations back & I am sorry I judged you for the handful of crooks you kept company with.
Today, I honour you for being a Freedom Fighter, A Leader and a true Son of the Soil.
Having said that, I also have three reasons why I cannot hold you as the father of our nation or as a man who led us in winning Independence –
- We haven’t really got Independence
- We got our mother back but Broken & Paralyzed
- Your experiments with Truth & Non-violence
I am sorry but It had to be said. My honest apologies again for all false allegations I held upon you. May your soul rest in peace!
P.S.: Rajiv Dixit was a great man of honour. He was very intelligent & political sound. Alas, In 2010 they poisoned him as well. Youtube his speeches & you will know lots of facts, which you would have never thought of or probably assumed.
& Much thanks to @advancedmaushi for helping me grammatically correct. 🙂
Coming straight to the point, It’s Dedh Ishqiya I’m talking about. I thought I was going to watch a great movie with a stunning story plot after a long time. But alas, I didn’t find the movie any great & yes the movie is very overrated. I don’t like criticizing great directors/ writers like Vishal Bhardwaj, Anurag Kashyap, Sudhir Mishra & their Associates-became-Directors, but I must say this – Dedh Ishqiya was a not-so-good attempt of Abhishek Chaubey.
In the nutshell…
Movie type: On a scale of 1 to 10, I would rate it a 6
Story plot: Not so great
Dialogues: Average & little Pushy
Chemistry of key characters: I would say Good but not great
Naseeruddin Shah: Brilliant as usual
Arshad Warsi: Anybody could have replaced him
Vijay Raaz: BRILLIANT!
Huma Qureshi: Over acting in few crucial scenes
Madhuri Dixit: It’s high time She should be honored with the Life time achievement Award, No offence.
It’s almost after a year I felt an urge to watch a movie but It disappointed me again. The last movie I saw was Bombay Talkies a year ago & It was a disappointment too. I still can’t decipher What Bombay Talkies exactly meant to be… What was its purpose… & How did it celebrate the 100 years of Cinema? Anyways I am not convinced of the movie yet.
I would be lying if I say I don’t like Bollywood. Of course I love Bollywood for the fantastic movies It has produced in last 10-15 years. They are few in number, but one can’t complain. Every industry has its own capacity of producing great products. (Mobile phone industry has only one such great product – iPhone 😉 ).
I loved watching movies like – Maqbool, The Blue Umbrella, Barfi, Aamir, Trishna, Paan Sing Tomar, Gulaal, Oye Lucky, LSD, Hazaron Khwaishein Aishi, Dor, Iqbal, Mr & Mrs Iyer, Munnai Bhai series, Lagaan, Dil Chahta hai, AAA, Manorama, Dev D & more. These movies had brilliant story plots with amazing chemistry of characters & unique of their kind. These movies were 360 degrees brilliant in nature & none of it disappointed me a bit.
But the excellence in cinema is slowly bleeding to its death it seems.. VB made movies like Matru ki bijli, Anurag Kashyap is busy making short movies, Sudhir mishra’s Inkaar came & gone yet no news of it, Shreyash Talpade opting for Golmaal shit, Aamir khan doing Dhoom 3, Kay Kay Menon-no where to be seen, Irfan Khan-thankfully you find in some, Deepak Dobriyal-Last we saw in Tanu weds Manu?, Priyanka Chopra became Pinky…yuckk, Chitrangada Singh-Where the hell has she disappeared?, Pankaj Kapoor – Hope He’s not planning for a retirement so soon.. Sigh!
“Dear Bollywood, Please don’t bleed to death so soon. We haven’t seen the glorious side of you enough. All we ask for is, just ONE brilliant movie a year & we are content with that. Thank You.
The Poor & Hungry Indian”
Every morning has become a regret, & a deep one. Every morning I swear the same oath not to drink that night & to be a better man, but I end up slaving to alcohol every evening like this one. And it’s not just the alcohol, I end up being disgustingly knocked up myself by mixing the drunkenness with the Green. & All I could think or remember the next morning – when did I sleep yesterday? Which episode of game of thrones was I watching last? Did I have the dinner properly, I’m already hungry… It’s been a long night, could there be any smart reason to skip office today?
& the answer is always one thing – No, you don’t remember anything & now get your ass out of the bed!
A hope prevails. I would soon get out of these illusional madness. May the selflessness help me!!
“All art is quite useless. Without it, we wouldn’t die, but wouldn’t feel quite alive either.”
The Culture vs The Perception
It was indeed a happy day when it was ruled that there is nothing wrong with gay sex. There were millions of people happy not only in India but globally. All of these people were not gay or lesbian; there were scores of straight people as well. The ruling gave a very clear message that the Indian government was for a change ready to move ahead and not blindly follow culture, or what we perceive culture to be.
Now after the ruling today, there are two points I would like to put forward, which reveal the sheer hypocrisy of this ruling. The first one being the difference in ‘culture’, and our perception of culture. They seem like the same thing don’t they? But they aren’t.
What is the root of culture? Where do our notions of culture spring from? Almost every one of you would agree that it is…

“Do you ask what moral obligation I owe to my fellow men? None-except the obligation I owe to myself, to material objects, to all of existence; Rationality. I deal with men as my nature & their demands: by means of Reason. I seek or desire nothing from them except such relations as they care to enter of their own voluntary choice. It is only with their mind I can deal and only for my own self-interest, when they see that my interest coincides with theirs. When they don’t, I enter no relationship; I let dissenters go their way and I do not swerve from mine. I win by means of nothing but logic and I surrender to nothing but logic. I do not surrender my reason or deal with men who surrender theirs. I have nothing to gain from fools & cowards; I have no benefit to seek from human vices: from stupidity, dishonesty or fear. The only value men can offer me is the work of their mind. When I disagree with a rational man, I let reality be our final arbiter; if I am right, he will learn; if I am wrong I will; one of us will win, but both will profit.”
“My philosophy, in essence, is the concept of man as a heroic being, with his own happiness as the moral purpose of his life, with productive achievement as his noblest activity, and reason as his only absolute.”
