Take a ride in this boat

I believe the title and the picture gives you an idea of the theme of this post..so let me get you straight to the topic. Yeah its bit long, But it is very necessary for you to read. My roommate Pranshu always says “There are so many simple things around us, But its need a genius to understand their simplicity”. So here are some simple things. Am I talking to a genius?

Don’t you think movies like No Smoking, Hazaron Khwaishen Aishi, 1971, Dor, Water, Iqbal, Pather Panchali etc should not be made in India. Anurag Kahyap, Amrit Sagar, Satyajit Ray, Sudhir Mishra, Deepa Mehta etc should be stopped from making movies. These are the real fools, aren’t they?

Why don’t they understand that there is no audience to appreciate their work, in India(yeah, the audience which actually has the intelligence to understand movies). Why don’t they understand that People like “NAUTANKI” here.
Let me give you an example. Which movie has become blockbuster hit in this year…’Om Shanti Om’. If you haven’t watched the movie, please go and watch. I can assure you, You won’t find a Nautanki bigger than this. Bloody hell!! You will be pissed off. For God’s sake, please understand filmmakers like Farah Khan, David Dhawan are repeatedly questioning the intelligence of the audience. But there is no point in blaming them. It is you for whom they are making movies. What happened to your taste? I have mentioned the names of some movies. Please watch those once and try to understand the great efforts made behind those. See the script, the story line, the acting, the direction, the background colour, the theme…I won’t be amazed, if you say “This movie is GREAT” after watching those.

Haahahaha…I have heard most of the people claiming they have an amazing taste in Indian music. But what and whom do they listen to… (Have a good Laugh!) They listen to Himesh Reshamiya, Sonu Nigam and and (please hold your laughter for a moment)-& they listen to remixes. And when they listen to oldies they feel like taking a nap. Fuck You; If you don’t have the right taste of Music, just stay away from it.

I know, I have become very harsh but I am really amazed at the kind of taste of music, people have in our country. If you really like music, see the involvement of the singe in the feel of the song , the lyrics, the instruments played…Here are some important names related to indian music industry..Legendry Singers- Kishore Kumar, Mohd Rafi, Lata Mangeskar, Kumar Sanu, Suresh wadekar, KK, Kavita Krishnamurty, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Ghulam Ali, Jagjit Singh, Pankaj Udash, Roop Kumar Rathod, Rabbi Shergill…..Lyricists: Gulzar, Prasoon Joshi -Listen to E.g. Rang De Basanti, Taare Zameen Par, No Smoking, Guru(Mayya mayya)
Believe me all the names I have mentioned right above are pearls of Indian Music, pearls which are invaluable. Their names should be flagged above all things.

Isn’t it?

Indian music and culture are the only things upon which an Indian can proud of. Because it is our own creation. I just want you to help these people keeping that creation alive. By encouraging them. Know their greatness.
I became very depressed when i read an article some days before- It was an interview of KK. It says, he had to walk with the recent trendz of remixes. He was recognized by people for the song “AJAB Si of Om shanti Om” (Believe me it was the worst among the best songs he has sung). ….More over, Some one has written a comment to that article even (who is this KK, is he Kailash Kher?). People even don’t know him. Just Listen to “Tadap Tadap of Hum Dil de Chuke Sanam, Title song of Deewangee, Aashayen of Iqbal, Alvida of Metro, Tu hi meri sab hai of Gangstar and many more are there and do let me know if I am wrong.

The same thing happens with movies too. Look at Aamir Khan. He chooses movies as per the script. He refused 35 crores to ADLABS only because they didnt have a script. Movie makers also gradually stopped making movies of good scripts. only because people don’t like those. I ask “whtz happening to our educated mass. Wht do you actually look for in movies and music? What is the basis of your selection? is it only entertainment and nothing else???

hi debasis……gud one…..aftr a long time u wrote sumthing n tht too is thought provoking as usual….but look at it frm a diff angle…talking abt success of movies like om shanti om….a movie has no longer remained a movie….it has becum a product ….which is to be marketed….the fate of most of d movies is decided in the first week…so they need to attract d audience to d cinema halls in d frst week…n fr tht they hv to create a hype using all ur marketing techniques like co-branding, advertising n promotion etc……so u cant blame only d audience fr d success of oso but a well planned mktg strategy….n arindham chaudhari has started making his nxt movie n fr tht too he has defined his clear cut mktg strategy…..same happens wid music….but if u think tht ppl’s taste hv changd…yes, it has….n dere is nothing wrong in it…..it changes wid d culture….n indian culture has changed coz culture is ever evolving n evr changing n nobdy can stop it….

  3. When u talk of movies, movies in the present world has become a place where people can release their stress and get entertainment for those couple of hours. In that sense i wouldn’t mind spending a few bucks watching om santhi om. I dont say its great work, but then its a good one…nothing like to write “Bloody Hell”.
After a stressful day at work i wouldnt certainly go to watch a movie with all the “rona dhona stuff”, which would be a stress giver and not a stress buster. As of songs, let us make one thing clear…its the taste that matters. There is still the population that hears to the like of singers u have mentioned. and the others like what u call it as remixes. It all about taste and not dumping upon some one a particular kind of music because he is an indian….and when u talk of music and culture those are not the only two things that we are proud of…there is a hell lot of things to mention. a few of them could be our talent pool, our technology, our tourist destinations, our world class leaders, and many to add to this list…

so lets not try dumping upon ideas…lets take a holistic view when we talk and try to give our opinions…..it will then make sense…
